Dicky Bag manufacture and sell a fun and innovative 'pooper scooper' for collecting and carrying dog mess when out walking your dog. On its launch, as a brand new product and idea, Dicky Bag asked Channel to create a suitable website to promote it and market it effectively online.
Content managed site (CMS)
Channel Digital developed a Joomla Content Managed System which allows Dicky Bag to update their own content easily, especially their blog which they actively use to promote their products and engage with customers.
We built a VirtuMart ecommerce module on the site, which allows multi-currency transactions. We also set up a text alert function to enable orders to be sent straight to designated mobile phones once they’ve been placed, in order to deal with Dicky Bag’s next day delivery service. This is particularly helpful to online retailers who are necessarily always at their desks.
Built-in video integration
One of the remits of the website was to keep it light and humorous - dog poop having plenty of opportunities for this! With this in mind we helped create a number of dog orientated competitions allowing visitors to upload photos and videos to the site, using built in video integration, and with the ability to comment and rate entries. This provides fun interactions for web site users and is good for building traffic to a site.
We also fully integrated Dicky Bag’s website with their Facebook and Twitter accounts, so new blog posts automatically update across their social media.
Search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign
Before we embarked on building the site, we undertook thorough keyword research to identify good niches of people searching for their product online. We were then able to create a number of landing pages related to these niches and developed an on-going linking strategy to help many of these keywords to reach page 1 of Google. Within the first two months, Dicky Bag's website was ranking on Page 1 of Google for 25 keywords, 7 of them in the top 3 positions.
Dicky Bag also asked us to implement a fully managed Google Adwords campaign to compliment the search engine optimisation. This helped deliver immediate traffic to a brand new, un-established website and provided them with statistics as to what keywords really ‘sold’ their product. This helped them plan on-going SEO and target keywords for organic rankings. The AdWords campaign was time limited, but achieved an average CTR of 6.62%, an average page position of 2.4 and a very cost effective CPC rate.
