KG Hypnobirthing

KG Hypnobirthing, founded by Katharine Graves, is the leading provider of hypnobirthing teaching and related products in the UK.  Katharine has grown the business from supporting local couples on their journey through pregnancy and birth, to a multi-national company with over 3000 hypnobirthing teachers taught worldwide.  

The Brief

The first website Channel built for KG Hypnobirthing (KGH) had served the business well, but was in need of an upgrade to the latest version of Joomla, a relatively major upgrade at that time.   It was decided instead to move the new website to WordPress, with a complete rebrand and streamlining the website for both the front end user and the membership area.  There are multiple areas of the business and integration of these to ensure a seamless user experience was key.

Technology

A WordPress multisite platform was chosen, whilst at this stage they only had one website, they wanted the ability to add more websites as they grew and this option allowed future proofing and central management.  WooCommerce was used for their ecommerce as it is very flexible for different product types, from books, digital audios, online courses and membership subscriptions.  

KGH offers a large number of free resources to their audience, once a user has signed to these free resources they receive ongoing support and emails sign posting them to information as well as products and courses.  We provided a streamlined process for this to support the conversion of visitors into paying customers.

The KGH teachers form a key part of the business and their journey from booking a course, attending the course (either physical or via zoom) followed by an assessment, accreditation and membership was managed using several WordPress plugins, which were extended and integrated using custom coding.  The created an automated process with emails triggered by certain events  and a student management system for the team to ensure the users were progressing through their journey. 

A full complement of payment options was set up, including Pay Now Buy Later (Klarna and Paypal) and mobile payments (Apple and Google Pay).   An intuitive page builder was used to allow the KGH team to update the website easily in-house and Yoast plugin was set up for SEO management.  

Different access levels for users is a key part of the KGH business model, this was managed through the front end visual features linking to the user categories. 

USA Website Launch 2025

The launch of the dedicated USA subsite in 2025 marks a major step in KG Hypnobirthing's global expansion strategy. Built on the existing WordPress multisite foundation, this subsite is tailored specifically to the US market, allowing for localized pricing, currency, and content. It maintains the seamless user experience and powerful e-commerce functionality of the main KGH site while ensuring cultural and regional relevance, significantly boosting KGH's presence across North America.

Migration of data

KG Hypnobirthing had a considerable amount of content to migrate, but also a very large number of users in their old website and it was a difficult decision to define which users should be brought across to the new website.  Any engaged users (shop, courses & memberships) would be bought across.  For the remainder, there were many areas to be considered, including GDPR, users who may want to return to the site for support for subsequent births and teachers who had previously been taught by KGH and had let their membership expire.   

We developed a formulae and set up an import routine to bring the target users across to the new platform.  The users login details stayed the same and they did not have to do anything proactively to access the new site.  

Custom coding / Integrations

Where possible we used plugins to provide the functionality needed for the business.  Ensuring these were integrated to allow an easy user journey was key.  Areas that needed custom coding to fit with their business model included:
